| Crash on Take-Off | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on11/27/2009 10:54 AM | |
| “From the man in the bird to the man in the tower—give me the word and I’ll give’er the power.” That rhyme may be all the planning that goes into taking off in a little airplane, often with predictable results. Such is decidedly not the case in an airliner; successful take-offs are a mathematical certainty before the captain advances the throttles. & ... | | |

| | Rebecca's Prayer | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on11/26/2009 9:11 AM | |
| From Rebecca Derrick who as captured the essence of Thanksgiving. Dear God, thank you for everything I have. You have blessed me 100 times more than I deserve. Thank you not only for all things good, but also for all the trials and tribulations I have endured who have made me who I am. Thank you for the silver linings found in tragedy, thank you for the simple joys I hardly acknowled...ge on a day to day basis. And Lord, thank you most of all for the family and friends you have blessed me with on my journey through this life. In Your name I pray, amen. | | |

| | Don't Worry | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on11/25/2009 9:32 AM | |
| It’s Thanksgiving time again. All of us know people bruised by this democrat depression, and every sane person knows that goose-step collectivist solutions portend worse yet. But, let’s not dwell on that now. Harry Truman used to talk about stirring up the animals, and that’s one of my jobs as county chairman. To that extent I’ve been somewhat successful. We must do our duty as we see fit knowing that our days are only a small part of the universe, so let us keep things in perspective. | |

| | Cultural Claymore | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on11/24/2009 7:08 PM | |
| Most people don’t think of culture as a weapon but it is. We used our culture against the Communists throughout the Cold War. Radio Free Europe, for instance, effectively beamed American culture into closed societies through the porous borders of the air. Those teeming masses of oppressed people longing to be free wanted televisions, Chevys, and blue jeans just like in America. We used our culture to foster dissatisfaction in those countries so they’d bring down their oppressors; we were good salesmen—they wanted Elvis not Stalin. ... | | |

| | Senator Bayh or Senator Bought? | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on11/23/2009 2:31 PM | |
| Evan, Evan, Evan, what were you thinking? Did that nasty old Dirty Harry sway you with promises, or were you thinking that you really need to spend more time with your family? Remember, Dirty Harry isn’t too popular in his home state, and neither are you. Both of you face reelection next year, and that means you and Harry may be bunk mates in OCS. No, I don’t mean Officer Candidate School; I’m talking about On City Streets. Senator Bayh or Senator Boug ... | | |

| | Nothing more than a place holder | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on11/20/2009 9:57 AM | |
| The message coming out of the Republican Governors Conference is don’t attack Obama personally. In other words, it’s OK to hate the sin, but it’s not OK to hate the sinner. As much as I find everything about Barack Obama distasteful, I also believe good judgment and discipline give us much more leverage than giving in to our whims to trash him. It’s easy to fall into the trap of overreaching our opposition into the kind of destructive personal ... | | |

| | Is it a bird, a plane, a dance, no--it's a VOP | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on11/19/2009 2:02 PM | |
| The world is changing fast. Futurist Alvin Toffler predicted compounding change would eventually overwhelm us; I think we may be close to fulfilling his prediction. Just keeping up with acronyms is hard for most of us to do, for instance, VOIP means Voice Over Internet Protocol, Vonage is the name of some kind of phone company, and Vectren is what we used to know as Indiana Gas. Why did they have to change to some innocuous name? Now there’s this thing called Vop Osili; I thought w ... | | |

| | Lady Hamlet | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on11/18/2009 3:00 PM | |
| Hamlet is full of pertinent quotes as contemporary as when the play was written. “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark” certainly rings true of the United States today, or the reluctant president Mitch Daniels as Hamlet: “To be, or not to be,--that is the question…” That is a question indeed. Our suffering high school English teacher, hoping to better his Philistine charges, had the temerity to take several of us to Bloomington for our first exposure to Shakespeare. It was an epiphany; we thought we had invented contemporary language as it was in the late sixties, ... | | |

| | 2012?? | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on11/16/2009 1:38 PM | |
| In case you weren’t paying attention to the Virginia Governor’s race earlier in the month there were some interesting forces at work. Sheila Johnson campaigned hard for Barack Obama in 2008, and she describes herself as a life-long democrat. I’d say that explains why she donated more than $600,000.00 to democrats since 2000. Sheila is the Co-founder of Black Entertainment ... | | |

| | Look the Other Way | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on11/14/2009 9:06 AM | |
| Why is Obama so keen on delaying Congressional investigation into Fort Hood? What does he have to hide? Be careful, Barack tends to hide his most guarded secrets in plain view; he is a grand master of obfuscation. | | |

| | Monthly Breakfast If you didn't get up to attend our monthly breakfast, you certainly missed a good one. Fifty eight Republicans joined our future congressman and current Secretary of State Todd Rokita and our State Auditor Tim Berry for great food and an interesting political discussion. Tim's analysis of Indiana's financial situation was enlightening. This was our first time as guests of Committeemen Bill and Brenda Mitchell and their team at the Brooklyn Christian Church. We hope they will volunteer to host us again; they did a great job. read more ...

| | Upcoming Events We have exciting events in the offing. Eighty five Republicans joined us on Saturday 20 Feb to meet four of the 4th District candidates for Congress. On Saturday 20 March the Lieutenant Governor of Indiana Becky Skillman is our guest along with U.S. Senate candidate Marlin Stutzman. The March breakfast is a pancake breakfast hosted by Mae Cooper at the Morgan County Administration Building 180 S. Main St., Martinsville. We'll start at 8:00 AM. Looking ahead there will be no April breakfast because of our annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Thursday 22 April, where our speaker is the former and future Speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives, Brian Bosma. Looking forward to May for the warm weather and a big race, we also have for the first time the Auditor of the State of Indiana Tim Berry attending our breakfast. Again, we are trying a new location for this breakfast: The Brooklyn Christian Church, 7 S. Church Street in Brooklyn. Committeemen Bill and Brenda Mitchell are putting this event together, and it will fun doubling the population of Brooklyn with Republicans on Saturday 15 May at 8:00 AM. read more ...

| | FLASH!!! Just like me, local democrats are shocked and surprised by the abrupt resignation of their chairman Daymon Brodhacker. This is an interesting turn of events since the reorganization caucus reelected him only last March. Regardless of his reasons, Daymon Brodhacker is one of the nicest people you’d ever want to meet. While I disagree with his spin of the 2008 election results here in Morgan County, and I certainly would not rate the performance of their commissioner candidate as a gain, those don’t detract from the fact that Daymon was a worthy opponent. Daymon was a hard worker, but unlike some of his candidates, he never allowed his frustrations to effect his good humor. He was the happy warrior who probably knew he was fighting a losing battle, but like Benjamin Guggenheim on the Titanic, he went down like a gentleman. Speaking of the Titanic, it’s hard to find a captain when you know how the story always ends. For Morgan County democrats, election day is like Bill Murray’s alarm clock going off in the movie Ground Hog Day; oh, not again. Good luck Daymon. Speaking on behalf of the entire Morgan County Republican Central Committee, we thank you for honorably serving the electoral process. read more ...

| | | New Poll Poll Numbers – Although President Obama remains personally very popular, views on his handling of federal spending have dropped significantly over the last several weeks. According to the latest Gallup poll, a majority of Americans (51%) disapprove of his handling of federal spending and a plurality (48%) disapproves of his handling of the deficit. The poll also says that President Obama’s favorability rating (67%) is similar to President George W. Bush’s favorability rating (65%) at the same point in his presidency. Also, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll, Americans now trust REPUBLICANS on the economy more than the Democrats 45% to 39%. read more ...
