It's Ironic
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on9/29/2009 2:50 AM

It’s ironic that nearly a hundred years ago Winston Churchill was the First Lord of the Admiralty. That is roughly equlivant to Secretary of the Navy here in the U.S.

In criminal disregard of increasing German suspicion and hostility certain members of the Liberal Party government of Prime Minister Asquith were keen to disarm England so they could spend the money on social programs. What a surprise, liberals never seem to change.

Avow Now!
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on9/28/2009 7:37 AM
Gallup polls indicate hope for our Republican brand name, but it’s too soon to break out the party hats and kazoos. There is yet justifiable suspicion about what Republicans, at their core, believe in.

Our very successful governor’s WSJ interview posted on this website is indicative. Mitch eschews ideology, and it works for him and other individual candidates. However, a party needs ...

Drainage Drama
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on9/25/2009 5:59 AM
Local government is fascinating, but most people are blind to the drama going on around them. One recent example of high-theater is the lowly drainage board. Who would think that the transportation of unwanted water could generate such emotion?

Reform the Reformers
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on9/24/2009 6:09 PM
One thing about democrats, they sure aren’t lazy. While the rest of us sleep they are still working through this night and many to come on their health care reform. They know it has to be done quickly or not at all.
It is their health care reform, not ours. They know most Americans oppose their scheme, but they are going ahead anyway, because it’s really not about us. It’s about paying off their friends in labor and on the radical left.

Bring them Home.
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on9/23/2009 8:34 AM
Dilemmas are an executive responsibility, because they represent situations demanding choices between equally undesirable alternatives. Your newspaper delivery boy faces crushing dilemmas in his narrow point of view, but those of us who’ve faced real dilemmas know the difference between them and mere inconvenience. King Solomon knew about dilemmas when he suggested the divided baby solution between competing mothers.

Human Depreciation
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on9/21/2009 10:34 AM
The Internal Revenue Service is part of your health care equation under PinocchiObama’s plan. I recommend that you read it while it’s only 1076 pages, because it’s going to grow by another six or seven hundred pages in the mark-up and amendment process.
The plan is so chock full of taxes and penalties it reminds me of a mine field. In military parlance, mine fields are obstacles. Obstacles are devices used to slow the enemy down, and place him within effectively ...

It's because he is wrong!
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on9/18/2009 8:27 AM
PinocchioBama says we should just trust him, because he’ll make everything all right. There won’t be any death panels or limitations on health care, because they’ll be unnecessary since he will save us so much money on his plan.
Well, excuse me, but I don’t trust him or his Komrades. Wilson was right, Obama lies, because he knows full well that his theory will not be the practice. He is by his very core a radical Socio-collectivist, and his supreme objective is control. Now, I hate throwing the word fascist around with all of the others already hurled his way, but his actions are beginning to fit the definition.

Gettysburg
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on9/17/2009 10:10 AM

I’m late with the Blog, because I had a weekend affair with an old flame: the U.S. Army. She’s still looking good and been busy since I left her a few years ago.

The commander and officers of the 2-152 Reconnaissance and Surveillance Squadron invited me, Senator Richard Bray, and Representative Ralph Foley to accompany them on a staff-ride to the Gettysburg battlefield in Pennsylvania.

Obama, elide.
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on9/11/2009 4:49 AM
Elide reminds me of PinocchiObama in a couple of ways, and that’s what is so great about the English Language—it’s so flexible. Elide unfortunately isn’t one of those words classed as onomatopoeia. Words like thud or crunch sound like the things they mean. Elide, however, doesn’t mean “he lied.” It means that something was omitted, or the entire truth wasn’t told. It’s almost the same thing as lying but not quite.

Monthly Breakfast

If you didn't get up to attend our monthly breakfast, you certainly missed a good one. Fifty eight Republicans joined our future congressman and current Secretary of State Todd Rokita and our State Auditor Tim Berry for great food and an interesting political discussion. Tim's analysis of Indiana's financial situation was enlightening. This was our first time as guests of Committeemen Bill and Brenda Mitchell and their team at the Brooklyn Christian Church. We hope they will volunteer to host us again; they did a great job.

Upcoming Events

We have exciting events in the offing. Eighty five Republicans joined us on Saturday 20 Feb to meet four of the 4th District candidates for Congress. On Saturday 20 March the Lieutenant Governor of Indiana Becky Skillman is our guest along with U.S. Senate candidate Marlin Stutzman. The March breakfast is a pancake breakfast hosted by Mae Cooper at the Morgan County Administration Building 180 S. Main St., Martinsville. We'll start at 8:00 AM.

Looking ahead there will be no April breakfast because of our annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Thursday 22 April, where our speaker is the former and future Speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives, Brian Bosma.

Looking forward to May for the warm weather and a big race, we also have for the first time the Auditor of the State of Indiana Tim Berry attending our breakfast. Again, we are trying a new location for this breakfast: The Brooklyn Christian Church, 7 S. Church Street in Brooklyn. Committeemen Bill and Brenda Mitchell are putting this event together, and it will fun doubling the population of Brooklyn with Republicans on Saturday 15 May at 8:00 AM.

Why so secret?

The Morgan County democrats are going to try again. They've called a caucus on 25 July for another attempt to elect a chairman, but the public isn't invited. For the record, every Morgan County Republican caucus held in the last four years has been public. Everyone is invited. Why so secret demos?

FLASH!!!
Just like me, local democrats are shocked and surprised by the abrupt resignation of their chairman Daymon Brodhacker. This is an interesting turn of events since the reorganization caucus reelected him only last March.

Regardless of his reasons, Daymon Brodhacker is one of the nicest people you’d ever want to meet. While I disagree with his spin of the 2008 election results here in Morgan County, and I certainly would not rate the performance of their commissioner candidate as a gain, those don’t detract from the fact that Daymon was a worthy opponent.

Daymon was a hard worker, but unlike some of his candidates, he never allowed his frustrations to effect his good humor. He was the happy warrior who probably knew he was fighting a losing battle, but like Benjamin Guggenheim on the Titanic, he went down like a gentleman.

Speaking of the Titanic, it’s hard to find a captain when you know how the story always ends. For Morgan County democrats, election day is like Bill Murray’s alarm clock going off in the movie Ground Hog Day; oh, not again.

Good luck Daymon. Speaking on behalf of the entire Morgan County Republican Central Committee, we thank you for honorably serving the electoral process.

John Voight on Obama
New Poll

Poll Numbers – Although President Obama remains personally very popular, views on his handling of federal spending have dropped significantly over the last several weeks.  According to the latest Gallup poll, a majority of Americans (51%) disapprove of his handling of federal spending and a plurality (48%) disapproves of his handling of the deficit.  The poll also says that President Obama’s favorability rating (67%) is similar to President George W. Bush’s favorability rating (65%) at the same point in his presidency.

Also, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll, Americans now trust REPUBLICANS on the economy more than the Democrats 45% to 39%.
