Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on8/31/2009 3:53 PM
Well there they go again, as Ronald Reagan used to say. The Marion County Democratic Party website heading proclaims: Building a World Class City—Neighborhood by Neighborhood.

It’s more like Bilking a World Class City—Neighborhood by Neighborhood. Soon to be former Lawrence Township Trustee Mike Hobbs is the latest to sit in the Denny Oxley hot seat of democratic embarrass ...

The Success of Unity
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on8/28/2009 7:35 AM
Our golf committee has another stunning achievement under their belts after yesterday’s event. Our attendance goes up every year, and this was no exception with record numbers of sponsors and players.

Everyone had a great time on the links and at the Unity Dinner after the game. That’s a chance for those who can’t play golf to join in for a scrumptious pork chop dinner and ...

Town Hall America
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on8/26/2009 5:46 AM
I attended the 4th district town hall meeting in Danville last night, and so did six or seven hundred other concerned citizens. The discourse was civil, polite, and thoughtful, but it was indicative of the frustrations all of us have with our runaway Federal Government.

Reinventing the Wheel
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on8/25/2009 12:11 PM

Don’t waste time reinventing the wheel. The essence of conservatism is, well, conserving those things that give meaning to life. History’s lessons exist so we need not repeat error.

Professional aviators, for instance, prefer reading about the mistakes other pilots make so they don’t end up at the scene of an accident themselves. I’ve studied National Transporta ...

Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on8/24/2009 8:26 AM
Obama says he wants to bring the same effective reforms to your Social Security account. He’s a little busy right now, but he intends to focus on tinkering with the rest of your money soon.

Social Security was, is, and always will be a scam. Bernie Madoff         goes to jail for what the government does to every one of o ...

Klingon Health Care
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on8/21/2009 6:07 AM

The Obamaroids had victory in their hands, and yet, their infectious hubris and innate ineptitude snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in their quest for health care reform. We can only worry how he will handle the real crisis blabbering Joe says is coming. Anyway, this round isn’t over yet; they frantically pull cards from up their sleeves and deal from bottom of the deck. Let us keep the pressure on.

WOULD YOU BUY A USED CAR FROM BARACK OBAMA???
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on8/20/2009 5:37 AM

If the Obamaroids really wonder why the American people are upset with his plans to destroy their health care delivery system, then he ought to go to the post office.

I was eighteenth in line Monday at the airport post office. It’s one of the busiest facilities in Central Indiana, and you’d think they&rsquo ...

If this is 1952 you are having a bad dream.
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on8/18/2009 6:39 PM
Mimicking his imperious leader, Congressman Barron Hill says we need healthcare reform, because our health delivery system is “broken.” That’s the message from the power hungry limousine liberal democrats, and reasonable people mindlessly repeat their mantra without knowing why.

What, exactly, is broken? Ask yourself this question: if you get ca ...

High Popalorum and Low Popahirum
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on8/17/2009 4:30 PM

With Obama and the democrats you must always apply refraction logic. In other words, what they are saying usually means something else entirely.

The latest refraction is Obama’s illusional back-step from his signature healthcare reform legislation. The fact is that he and his gang are caught red-handed in their ...

The West Wing Follies
Chairman's Thoughts By colweaver on8/14/2009 5:06 PM
The democrat’s problems start when they win the White House. The only West Wing experience most of them claim is, well, watching West Wing reruns. They finally get in there, and it’s not long before things go awry, because they really don’t know how to govern at the senior executive level. Generations of democrat aristocrats get skipped between administrations, or like now, the Clinton retreads get taken out of the freezer and thawed out for another try.

Monthly Breakfast

If you didn't get up to attend our monthly breakfast, you certainly missed a good one. Fifty eight Republicans joined our future congressman and current Secretary of State Todd Rokita and our State Auditor Tim Berry for great food and an interesting political discussion. Tim's analysis of Indiana's financial situation was enlightening. This was our first time as guests of Committeemen Bill and Brenda Mitchell and their team at the Brooklyn Christian Church. We hope they will volunteer to host us again; they did a great job.

Upcoming Events

We have exciting events in the offing. Eighty five Republicans joined us on Saturday 20 Feb to meet four of the 4th District candidates for Congress. On Saturday 20 March the Lieutenant Governor of Indiana Becky Skillman is our guest along with U.S. Senate candidate Marlin Stutzman. The March breakfast is a pancake breakfast hosted by Mae Cooper at the Morgan County Administration Building 180 S. Main St., Martinsville. We'll start at 8:00 AM.

Looking ahead there will be no April breakfast because of our annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Thursday 22 April, where our speaker is the former and future Speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives, Brian Bosma.

Looking forward to May for the warm weather and a big race, we also have for the first time the Auditor of the State of Indiana Tim Berry attending our breakfast. Again, we are trying a new location for this breakfast: The Brooklyn Christian Church, 7 S. Church Street in Brooklyn. Committeemen Bill and Brenda Mitchell are putting this event together, and it will fun doubling the population of Brooklyn with Republicans on Saturday 15 May at 8:00 AM.

Why so secret?

The Morgan County democrats are going to try again. They've called a caucus on 25 July for another attempt to elect a chairman, but the public isn't invited. For the record, every Morgan County Republican caucus held in the last four years has been public. Everyone is invited. Why so secret demos?

FLASH!!!
Just like me, local democrats are shocked and surprised by the abrupt resignation of their chairman Daymon Brodhacker. This is an interesting turn of events since the reorganization caucus reelected him only last March.

Regardless of his reasons, Daymon Brodhacker is one of the nicest people you’d ever want to meet. While I disagree with his spin of the 2008 election results here in Morgan County, and I certainly would not rate the performance of their commissioner candidate as a gain, those don’t detract from the fact that Daymon was a worthy opponent.

Daymon was a hard worker, but unlike some of his candidates, he never allowed his frustrations to effect his good humor. He was the happy warrior who probably knew he was fighting a losing battle, but like Benjamin Guggenheim on the Titanic, he went down like a gentleman.

Speaking of the Titanic, it’s hard to find a captain when you know how the story always ends. For Morgan County democrats, election day is like Bill Murray’s alarm clock going off in the movie Ground Hog Day; oh, not again.

Good luck Daymon. Speaking on behalf of the entire Morgan County Republican Central Committee, we thank you for honorably serving the electoral process.

John Voight on Obama
New Poll

Poll Numbers – Although President Obama remains personally very popular, views on his handling of federal spending have dropped significantly over the last several weeks.  According to the latest Gallup poll, a majority of Americans (51%) disapprove of his handling of federal spending and a plurality (48%) disapproves of his handling of the deficit.  The poll also says that President Obama’s favorability rating (67%) is similar to President George W. Bush’s favorability rating (65%) at the same point in his presidency.

Also, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll, Americans now trust REPUBLICANS on the economy more than the Democrats 45% to 39%.
