| Pump up the volume | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on7/31/2009 12:37 PM | |
| We’ve discussed the nine Principles of Warfare in this Blog several times. All are important, but right now Mass is preeminent. Mass is focusing all available combat power upon the objective to achieve decisive victory, and that’s were we are right now on health care reform. Obama has lost the initiative, and h ... | | |

| | Little Moldova Stands Tall | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on7/30/2009 7:17 AM | |
| Moldova is a landlocked little country wedged in between Romania and The Ukraine. It’s about the size of Maryland, and it used to be known as the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic. Now they just want to be the Republic of Moldova. Moldova is a long way from Indiana, and most Hoosiers never heard of it. If they think about it at all, they presume the Soviet Union’s fall brought immediate freedom and prosperity to those oppressed millions of faceless lives who never had a say in their future. | | |

| | The Politics of Flu | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on7/29/2009 11:25 AM | |
| I just smile and nod when someone, usually with an air of overbearing rectitude, tells me that they aren’t political. The do-gooders mistakenly believe that removing politics is tantamount to purification, when all they’ve really accomplished is the abdication of their citizen responsibility and oversight. Politics is the process of accountability for the electorate and th ... | | |

| | The issue is their lack of grace not race. | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on7/28/2009 6:28 PM | |
| Out over the Atlantic Ocean we flew our Boeing 767 close to five hundred miles per hour. Sometimes, when we were lucky, we flew inside the core of a two hundred MPH Jet Stream. Our effective speed over the ground, or water in this case, was well in excess of seven hundred MPH—pretty close to the speed of sound at sea level. That’s fast, but it was never fast enough. & ... | | |

| | Recalibrate | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on7/27/2009 8:31 AM | |
| The Congressional Budget Office released yet another negative report about Obama’s health scam. It tells quite a different story than the rosy picture painted by the Executive Office of the President Council of Economic Advisors last June. It’s surprising since the head of the CBO was called to the White House to have his thinking “recalibrated” late last week. T ... | | |

| | Health Care Bull | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on7/24/2009 6:51 AM | |
| Like Obama, we don’t have the facts on the arrest of his pal Henry Louis Gates. Unlike Obama, we are waiting for the facts before condemning any of the antagonists. However, it’s indicative of the omniscience and perceived omnipotence of Obama to interject himself into every issue. I’m surprised he hasn’t commented yet on the mandatory inspections of certain Boeing 777 engines the FAA just issued. Doubtless Obama has his own opinions about the merits of the GE 90 verses the Rolls Royce Trent ... | | |

| | A leader, or just the leader of the Oompah band? The voters know. | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on7/23/2009 8:00 AM | |
| Who is buried in Grant’s tomb? The answer seems obvious enough: General Grant, but his wife Julia is beside him in death as she was in life. They made a good team. Anyway, I read an article on General Grant several years ago asking the question about his burial arrangements. The answer really is not as obvious as it seems, because no one really knows Grant. Indeed, Sherman said of Grant that he was an enigma even unto himself. &n ... | | |

| | Kernan-Shepard | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on7/22/2009 6:11 PM | |
| A comment attributed to State Senator Connie Lawson during the recent dust-up about the Kernan-Shepard plan still bothers me. She supposedly said that the only people who understand county government are the people in county government. I don’t know if she meant that pejoratively, but those in county government certainly took it that way. Nevertheless, her assessment is correct. It ... | | |

| | Regan's elegant decency | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on7/20/2009 7:45 PM | |
| One of the defining character traits of Ronald Reagan’s greatness was his common decency. Reagan was a pugnacious opponent on the battlefield of ideas, but he never stooped to name-calling. He knew that personal attacks were the domain of little minds, jealous of other’s accomplishments, and a gauge of the moral and intellectual bankruptcy of the little Führers who spout them. &nb ... | | |

| | Now what? | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on7/20/2009 6:52 AM | |
| I wish I could feign surprise at Lugar’s obsequious jump to be the first Republican to support Sotoliar, but it’s been a long time since we “lost our innocence” with that guy. It’s Republicans like him that have good Republicans ready to leave the party. Conservatives vent their frustrations on me because I am accessible, sympathetic, and responsive to ... | | |

| | Monthly Breakfast If you didn't get up to attend our monthly breakfast, you certainly missed a good one. Fifty eight Republicans joined our future congressman and current Secretary of State Todd Rokita and our State Auditor Tim Berry for great food and an interesting political discussion. Tim's analysis of Indiana's financial situation was enlightening. This was our first time as guests of Committeemen Bill and Brenda Mitchell and their team at the Brooklyn Christian Church. We hope they will volunteer to host us again; they did a great job. read more ...

| | Upcoming Events We have exciting events in the offing. Eighty five Republicans joined us on Saturday 20 Feb to meet four of the 4th District candidates for Congress. On Saturday 20 March the Lieutenant Governor of Indiana Becky Skillman is our guest along with U.S. Senate candidate Marlin Stutzman. The March breakfast is a pancake breakfast hosted by Mae Cooper at the Morgan County Administration Building 180 S. Main St., Martinsville. We'll start at 8:00 AM. Looking ahead there will be no April breakfast because of our annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Thursday 22 April, where our speaker is the former and future Speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives, Brian Bosma. Looking forward to May for the warm weather and a big race, we also have for the first time the Auditor of the State of Indiana Tim Berry attending our breakfast. Again, we are trying a new location for this breakfast: The Brooklyn Christian Church, 7 S. Church Street in Brooklyn. Committeemen Bill and Brenda Mitchell are putting this event together, and it will fun doubling the population of Brooklyn with Republicans on Saturday 15 May at 8:00 AM. read more ...

| | FLASH!!! Just like me, local democrats are shocked and surprised by the abrupt resignation of their chairman Daymon Brodhacker. This is an interesting turn of events since the reorganization caucus reelected him only last March. Regardless of his reasons, Daymon Brodhacker is one of the nicest people you’d ever want to meet. While I disagree with his spin of the 2008 election results here in Morgan County, and I certainly would not rate the performance of their commissioner candidate as a gain, those don’t detract from the fact that Daymon was a worthy opponent. Daymon was a hard worker, but unlike some of his candidates, he never allowed his frustrations to effect his good humor. He was the happy warrior who probably knew he was fighting a losing battle, but like Benjamin Guggenheim on the Titanic, he went down like a gentleman. Speaking of the Titanic, it’s hard to find a captain when you know how the story always ends. For Morgan County democrats, election day is like Bill Murray’s alarm clock going off in the movie Ground Hog Day; oh, not again. Good luck Daymon. Speaking on behalf of the entire Morgan County Republican Central Committee, we thank you for honorably serving the electoral process. read more ...

| | | New Poll Poll Numbers – Although President Obama remains personally very popular, views on his handling of federal spending have dropped significantly over the last several weeks. According to the latest Gallup poll, a majority of Americans (51%) disapprove of his handling of federal spending and a plurality (48%) disapproves of his handling of the deficit. The poll also says that President Obama’s favorability rating (67%) is similar to President George W. Bush’s favorability rating (65%) at the same point in his presidency. Also, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll, Americans now trust REPUBLICANS on the economy more than the Democrats 45% to 39%. read more ...
