| "They have their reward" | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on2/27/2009 9:23 AM | |
| Obama’s tax plan revealed the big fat increase all of us expected. Now we’ll see if his fat cat supporters really meant it when they said they’d gladly pay more taxes. It reminds me of Christ’s words in Matthew 6:2 enclosed below. “Therefore when thou dost an almsdeed, ... | | |

| Some, not all, of our local democrats seem a little fractious in the wake of our recent electoral successes. They were warned that things wouldn’t go easy for them, but they prefer to take it personally nonetheless. Indeed, we still await the concession speech from one of their prominent local candidates. Defeat, nay, annihilation hurts, but it’s also a mark of good character to accept humiliation gracefully. Sources inside their politburo tell me to watch out for a new strategy. They’ve decided if they can&am ... | | |

| | Iceberg Dead Ahead! | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on2/24/2009 2:26 PM | |
| Obama makes his first address to Congress this evening, and it’s going to be interesting to see if he’s figured out that he is in over his head. Make no mistake, I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes, but then, I didn’t run for the office. So far he has proposed unsustainable equations based upon faulty assumptions. That, I’m afraid, will result in predictable results. You may remember that ... | | |

| | Take Us To Our Leader | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on2/23/2009 2:11 PM | |
| We Republicans face two fundamental questions about our future that we must answer soon, or we can forget restoration in 2010 and 2012. We cannot afford the luxury of extended wound licking; it’s time to move on. Nationally, the GOP is in the wilderness, but we will be back sooner than later, indeed, sooner than most people think. First, however, we need a prophet like Newt Gingerich to help us form an idea like the Contract with America, and we must quickly decide which wing of the GOP is the real GOP. Is it Senator Tom Coburn’s wing of conservatism and fiscal responsibility, or wi ... | | |

| | One to beam up! | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on2/20/2009 8:43 AM | |
| It’s increasingly clear to me that I am in the midst of an out-of-body experience, or I am part of a Star Trek away team who has beamed down to a strange planet. This is obviously not the planet I grew up on or the country of my birth. It’s some strange new culture that I increasingly don’t understand but distain. I like Star Trek, so I’m going to assume this isn’t really Earth, and I’m back in uniform again, this time, a ... | | |

| | Professional Amateurs | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on2/18/2009 3:00 PM | |
| Indianapolis Amateur Sports Capital of the World. Not being a sports fan I’ve often wondered how I ended up so close to something of so little interest to me. It’s a good thing that Indianapolis has so much more to offer those of us who couldn’t care less about teams. How could it be, I thought, do all these monstrous buildings make money? Friends tell me how much Colts and Pacers tickets set them back. These pastimes seem affordable only to wealthy individuals or corporate sponsors. Perhaps it’s a commentary on our society that seemingly decent family oriented people lay out vast sums to watch over-paid felons play games when our libraries stock video games and pulp fiction. | | |

| Flying jet airplanes is so much easier than the piston engine propeller types I grew up on. Jet engines usually don’t quit, unless they try to eat big birds; the remaining engine is powerful enough to pull you out of proximity to the ground. Putting distance between you and the ground is a good thing when flying a troubled airplane. The objective is to keep the good engine running. Regardless of your power source, jet, piston, or turbine, it’s always a good idea to al ... | | |

| | White House or outhouse? | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on2/3/2009 11:22 AM | |
| Barack Obama’s highly touted First Hundred Days have certainly been demonstrative of how he intends to govern. Here we are not two weeks into his administration and there is already more sleaze than graces an outhouse pit. Just when you think they’ve hit bottom there is even more. Nancy Killefer, nominated as Barako’s Chief Performance Officer, whatever that’s supposed to be. In keeping with the spirit of his cabinet her only performance thus fa ... | | |

| Tom Daschle former U.S. Senator. A man who made rules for the rest of us to follow, but evidently those rules don’t apply to him. He’s yet another Obama sleaze selection. Obama’s “change you can believe in” appears to be surrounding yourself with disreputable former Clintonistas in the hope that we won’t notice. Obama’s team and their fellow travelers in Congress don’t car ... | | |

| | You didn't pay your taxes???? | | Chairman's Thoughts
| By colweaver on2/1/2009 11:07 AM | |
| I’m wondering what the life expectancy of Obama’s cabinet nominees would be had they been Bush’s. These aren’t just flawed people; they are guilty of serious breeches of honor and perhaps even the law. How many of us just decide to overlook our taxes and claim ignorance? Ignorance of any law is no excuse, especially, if you made the laws, as did former senator Tom Daschle. &nbs ... | | |

| | Monthly Breakfast If you didn't get up to attend our monthly breakfast, you certainly missed a good one. Fifty eight Republicans joined our future congressman and current Secretary of State Todd Rokita and our State Auditor Tim Berry for great food and an interesting political discussion. Tim's analysis of Indiana's financial situation was enlightening. This was our first time as guests of Committeemen Bill and Brenda Mitchell and their team at the Brooklyn Christian Church. We hope they will volunteer to host us again; they did a great job. read more ...

| | Upcoming Events We have exciting events in the offing. Eighty five Republicans joined us on Saturday 20 Feb to meet four of the 4th District candidates for Congress. On Saturday 20 March the Lieutenant Governor of Indiana Becky Skillman is our guest along with U.S. Senate candidate Marlin Stutzman. The March breakfast is a pancake breakfast hosted by Mae Cooper at the Morgan County Administration Building 180 S. Main St., Martinsville. We'll start at 8:00 AM. Looking ahead there will be no April breakfast because of our annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Thursday 22 April, where our speaker is the former and future Speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives, Brian Bosma. Looking forward to May for the warm weather and a big race, we also have for the first time the Auditor of the State of Indiana Tim Berry attending our breakfast. Again, we are trying a new location for this breakfast: The Brooklyn Christian Church, 7 S. Church Street in Brooklyn. Committeemen Bill and Brenda Mitchell are putting this event together, and it will fun doubling the population of Brooklyn with Republicans on Saturday 15 May at 8:00 AM. read more ...

| | FLASH!!! Just like me, local democrats are shocked and surprised by the abrupt resignation of their chairman Daymon Brodhacker. This is an interesting turn of events since the reorganization caucus reelected him only last March. Regardless of his reasons, Daymon Brodhacker is one of the nicest people you’d ever want to meet. While I disagree with his spin of the 2008 election results here in Morgan County, and I certainly would not rate the performance of their commissioner candidate as a gain, those don’t detract from the fact that Daymon was a worthy opponent. Daymon was a hard worker, but unlike some of his candidates, he never allowed his frustrations to effect his good humor. He was the happy warrior who probably knew he was fighting a losing battle, but like Benjamin Guggenheim on the Titanic, he went down like a gentleman. Speaking of the Titanic, it’s hard to find a captain when you know how the story always ends. For Morgan County democrats, election day is like Bill Murray’s alarm clock going off in the movie Ground Hog Day; oh, not again. Good luck Daymon. Speaking on behalf of the entire Morgan County Republican Central Committee, we thank you for honorably serving the electoral process. read more ...

| | | New Poll Poll Numbers – Although President Obama remains personally very popular, views on his handling of federal spending have dropped significantly over the last several weeks. According to the latest Gallup poll, a majority of Americans (51%) disapprove of his handling of federal spending and a plurality (48%) disapproves of his handling of the deficit. The poll also says that President Obama’s favorability rating (67%) is similar to President George W. Bush’s favorability rating (65%) at the same point in his presidency. Also, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll, Americans now trust REPUBLICANS on the economy more than the Democrats 45% to 39%. read more ...
